“I heard this before…” and “the slides have the same information as the video and podcast.” You are correct! I am trying to provide multiple ways for you to interact with the information. This semester, I am intentionally offering several representations of the content and opportunities for you to engage and provide ideas. I am learning about Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and the guidelines provided by CAST: http://udlguidelines.cast.org/.
You’ll likely encounter in the instructional materials multiple media and ways of decoding the information. If you see additional ways to represent content or highlight patterns/features/ideas and relationships, please let me know. I also want to promote comprehension by returning to previous material and having you retrieve it (“retrieval practice“). Therefore, don’t be confused if you’ve seen a concept before: I think highly of you and want you to solidify your learning and connect it to as many ideas as you can. I am not repeating this because I assume you don’t understand.
I have been trying to model different ways of posting on the forums and providing your thoughts. If you feel comfortable, try recording a response, including a link, or sharing an image.
In the process, I want you to self-assess and reflect on what you have learned and still need to master. You are learning by explaining to each other and harnessing your motivation and efforts to find additional applications and high-throughput technologies!
