Module 1 Expectations

Hello students!

We are excited to have our first in-person lab session on Tuesday from 12:50-5:50 PM! Remember that even though our lectures are officially scheduled for Thursday from 3:00-4:50 PM, they are completely asynchronous and you do not need to come in-person for these sessions. Instead you may complete the lecture materials through Moodle at your own pace throughout the week.

Our first lab session is tomorrow morning. We will introduce lab expectations, perform a lab safety overview, and discuss liquid handlers and what they do. Then, in teams we will work together to set up the epMotion 5075 liquid handler to grow bacteria and expose to different treatments. Our protocols can be accessed at: go.ncsu.edu/htdprotocols and we will use Protocols.io to follow and improve steps.

For each Module, assignments are always due each week by Friday at 5 PM, but you can always request a grace period until Monday if you complete our Grace Period Request Form (check out our late work policy in our syllabus).

Module 1 discusses the history and applications of high-throughput (HT) discovery science. Module 1 on Moodle includes 3-4 hours of continuous work including watching a video, discussing a JoVE article, and completing a short comprehension check. In the lab, we will learn about liquid handlers by setting up our first experiment with the epMotion 5075: growth curve analyses.
