JoVE Manuscript Reviews and BIT 579 NSF GRFP Peer Reviews

Good afternoon HTD Team!

Please remember that group project peer reviews should be emailed to all three instructors (as mentioned in the guidelines and easy to overlook!) and 579 GRFP proposal comments are submitted via Moodle.

Feedback for group projects (jove.com articles) should be completed individually and submitted by 5 pm tomorrow, April 23. We have modeled our Peer-Review Feedback worksheet off of the JoVE manuscript peer-review questions for the publication process! Scientific research depends on these collaboration and communication skills. This will be a valuable experience to practice these skills, learn from one another, and to practice giving constructive feedback! Giving quality constructive feedback can be a challenge so give yourself time not to rush through this assignment and approach this with kindness!

You are each responsible for completing a peer-review worksheet for the draft you were assigned. When you receive your peer reviews, you will have at least 4 individual’s feedback on your work to use to improve your Group Project. This allows us to see our work from multiple diverse perspectives!

You can find the Peer-Review worksheet here: Group Project Peer-Review Assignment

BIT 579 students: use the Moodle PeerMark system (the assignment link you used to submit your GRFP drafts) to review one proposal. Provide careful feedback and respond to the questions. This process will help you learn about another proposal using high-throughput approaches and practice providing feedback. Here is a NC State DELTA video tutorial on using the PeerMark system and please let us know if you encounter any issues.

Remember: the goal here is to improve your drafts by gathering feedback you can incorporate next week. Module 7 is specifically designed for you to have time to work on your projects and portfolios to then share your learning with the group.

And as always, if something is unclear to you at any time during the peer-review process we encourage you to reach out to us!

Best,

Your HTD Instructional Team
