This week our second quest begins: Module 2: What makes a good screen? In this module, we will define key terms and differentiate target-based and phenotypic screens to evaluate when each is appropriate. We will discuss Z-factors and how they are used to determine the quality of a given assay.
The module design is similar to the first two. We have posted our second Mix Tape and attached it here. Short videos are posted, and the slides are available both on our Moodle site and on Top Hat. Again, you will have a series of questions to respond to on Top Hat and a discussion forum based on our first Case Study 1: Zika virus drug discovery. Please pay close attention to our Module Objectives and keep them in mind for our discussion forum.
This week your group project teams must meet virtually at least once and submit a forum update and teamwork report. Please review the guidelines.
Tomorrow morning I will start our first virtual student hours 10-11 am. These are optional, and you can join whenever. I will record the responses to questions, but I also can pause the recording to discuss anything you wish offline. These sessions are our opportunity to meet in real-time.
I look forward to this next quest and the thoughtful ideas you bring to our conversations!
